Reaching the public

Members of the public had a chance to see stonemasonry in action in London\'s Trafalgar Square in June against the backdrop of Nelson\'s Column undergoing restoration by David Ball Restoration (more about that in a future edition of NSS). While stonemasons from David Ball Restoration used their skills to repair the statue of Nelson himself, at street level others from the Stratford-based Building Crafts College demonstrated their skills and explained their craft to the public. The demonstration was to raise the profile of stonemasonry, vital both to preserve the UK\'s built heritage and to create new buildings to add to the heritage of the future.
