Sculpture is squirreled away
Pictured above are the completed grey and red squirrels created by Irish sculptor Barry Wrafter, who is seen in between them, on their way to the 400-acre estate of a private collector in Cork. The grey squirrel is carved of Irish Blue limestone from McKeon stone. The red squirrel is cast in bronze and is carrying a limestone acorn. The squirrels were commissioned for a shopping development but last year the commission was cancelled, even though Barry had already been paid 755,000 of the 780,000 the commission was worth. The story appeared in the national press in Ireland and the private collector came forward to buy the pieces. He got a bargain. Barry says he is always happy to accept commissions and can be contacted on Tel: 00353 876 546678. Email: barrywrafter06@eircom.net
