See stone carving in action as Georgian Group celebrates its 80th anniversary

Work by carvers from the City & Guilds of London Art School at the Georgian Group exhibition in Fitzroy Square, London.

Students, staff and alumni of the City & Guilds of London Art School are playing a prominent role in the Georgian Group's 80th Anniversary exhibition this month (through to 25 February) in the Georgian Group's beautiful Fitzroy Square townhouse in London.

The exhibition is called 'Splendour! Art in Living Craftsmanship' and celebrates traditional Georgian crafts and their place in the 21st century.

As well as having works included in the exhibition, City & Guilds of London Art School is proud to be a part of this showcase in the following ways:

  • Saturday 11 February, 12-3 pm: Demonstrations by recent graduates Clunie Fretton and Felix Handley (open to all)
  • Saturday 18 February, 12-3 pm: Demonstrations by current stone and woodcarving students (open to all)
  • Thursday 23 February, 7pm: 'All Set in Stone': A lecture by Tim Crawley, Head of Historic Carving (booking required through the Georgian Group)

For those interested in historic carving, the City & Guilds of London Art School is having a second year of participation in London Craft Week, when it will open the doors of its Kennington Park Road premises once again to visitors. There will be a live carving competition, open workshops and gilding demonstrations. More details to follow soon.
