As part of the National Heritage Training Group initiative under the Lottery-funded Skills for the Future programme, a £6,528 bursary is available for a trainee stonemason to spend six months working with a team of 18 masons at Lincoln Cathedral.

Deadline for applications is 28 April. Call Sophie Norton on 01904 323950 for more infromation or click here for an application form.

The placement has become available through the University of York. It offers a chance to contribute to this landmark project using only traditional materials, methods and tools – the local stone, hydraulic lime and hand-tools. There will be the opportunity for banker and fixer work.

Launched in 2009, the Skills for the Future programme is a Heritage Lottery Funded programme supporting organisations across the UK in creating new heritage training opportunities.

NHTG was awarded the largest single amount to provide high-quality, work-based training and skills development opportunities across England to equip people for a career in the built heritage sector. This will take place in the form of 60 variable-length bursaries working on live heritage sites.
