Special edition Carrara show cancelled just weeks from June opening

The special edition of the Carrara Marmotec stone exhibition due to take place this month (18-21 June) was called off last month with just weeks to go to the opening.

Carrara’s Marmotec is held every other year and was not due to be staged this year, but a special show had been planned for June as part of an extravaganza based in Milan lasting from May to October.

The decision to cancel the show was made following discussions between the fair organisers and the trade.

The Carrara exhibition President, Fabio Felici, said on announcing the show’s cancellation: "We took this decision with regret, given the huge amount of work we have done. However, we do not want to create discomfort among the companies in our area, forcing them to difficult choices.

"I am sure that the work we have done in recent months has been very positive with regards to the 2016 edition of Marmotec, allowing us to work at our best to create an event next year that represents a real business opportunity for companies in the sector.”

Seminars planned to be run with the exhibition in conjunction with the National Council of Architects will go ahead at the CarraraFiere Congress Center at the exhibition site. The ‘Carrara Marble Weeks’ programme in the town of Carrara will also go ahead, starting from 18 June, with its sculptural installations in the squares, narrow streets, historical buildings and shops.

But the stone exhibition itself will not now take place.
