J Rotherham, based in East Riding and one of the country’s largest masonry companies, is running a competition to find a concept design for a new range of fireplaces it wants to introduce.
Anyone is welcome to enter before the closing date of 30 November. Entries should be emailed with supportive workings and illustrations to competition@jrotherham.co.uk.They should include any mood boards and written explanations to support the design concept. Multiple designs can be entered by any one individual.
The winning design will be chosen as the concept basis of a ‘Contemporary Collection’ of fire surrounds from J Rotherham. The winner will be asked to develop the concept into a range of 12 designs initially. Each of the subsequent designs will be commissioned for £1,000.
The concept design must be set against a wall or blank backdrop and not freestanding. The concept designs can be configured to frame any type of fireplace appliance – for example, a hole in the wall, gas fire or bio-ethanol burner.
The winner will be able to use any of J Rotherham’s extensive collection of natural and engineered stones, which includes British limestones, and the designs will be produced in one of the best equipped stone processing factories in the country, so there should be few constraints.
The winning design will be chosen by Matthew Rotherham, Commercial Director of J Rotherham, and Vanessa Brady OBE, President of the Society of British Interior Design.
