WELSH//SLATE have supplied slate from all three of their North Wales quarries to give Caernarfon\'s Y Maes (square) a facelift. Sitting at the heart of Caernarfon\'s historic centre, the square is the backdrop to the town\'s picturesque medieval castle. Gwynedd Council decided they did not like its concrete paving and are replacing it with slate as part of a regeneration programme that also includes development of the town\'s Victorian docks. The paving is being laid by Mulcair. The design uses different sizes and colours of slate to highlight separate areas and also incorporates granite setts across one end of the square.
