School children are being invited to get creative and design a mason’s mark that can be cut into Horhsam Stone produced by the company of the same name.
Reintroducing the art of mason-marking, Horsham Stone is inviting children under the age of 13 to come up with a design that encapsulates the spirit of the Sussex town and its stone. It has to be distinctive but easily cut on to the stone.
Simon Stainer, Director of Horsham Stone, says: “Mason’s marks go back hundreds of years, so local children are literally being asked to make their mark on history. The mark will be unique to Horsham Stone and will be hand carved on to our stone that is to be used on future building projects all over the South East.”
The winner of the competition will be invited to attend a presentation and watch their design being hand carved into a piece of stone that they will be able to take home.
