St Mary’s Church in Limavady, Northern Ireland, has a spectacular new altar (pictured), lectern, tabernacle, baptismal font and ambo, all produced in Crème Cascais Portuguese limestone by Kilkeel stone specialists S McConnell & Sons.
All the pieces were hand finished after being fashioned on McConnell’s Omag CNC workcentre using diamond tools specially made by Encore Diamond.
The altar is 1200 x 900mm and was made from a three-and-a-half ton block of the stone with a relief carving of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper on the front of it. It took four weeks to make.
McConnell’s refurbished the church externally as well as internally, replacing pinnacles and installing two new crosses. They re-pointed the whole building and front boundary wall.
