Stone Regency style facade for sale on Friday

The facade before it was dismantled in 2006.

The facade of Arkenside Hotel, Cirencester, built in 1859 and taken down in 2006, is being auctioned on Friday this week (18 November).

Buyers who wish to participate in the timed auction should register on www.i-bidder.com the day before (Thursday 17 November) to ensure they can bid. For those who are unable to bid online, the i-Bidder auctoneers will, exceptionally, accept written bids as long as they are received before 8pm on Friday.

The facade has been in storage since its reclamation in 2006. The owner had originally intended to use it for a private residence but a change in circumstances has led to the facade being back on the market.

At present it is being stored in Surrey, where private viewings can be arranged with the auctioneers who are based in Guildford. You have to view in daylight as there is no lighting.

The stone is stored on about 100 pallets with a further 30-or-so one ton bags of loose stone. There are detailed diagrams and schedules of the stone linking it back to its original structure for its potential reconstruction. There is also a complete archive of photographs taken during the demolition work, which work in tandem with the diagrams and workings to demonstrate the care and attention to detail given to the reclamation project.

In addition to the stonework, there are window frames, doors, railings and York stone, all of which have also been carefully stored.

The i-Bidder timed auction closes at 8pm local time. Bids for the entire collection should be made on Friday 18 November with payment within three days and removal to be organised by Friday 25 November.

Interested buyers are strongly advised to inspect the stone in person before making a bid. Additional photographs and specific sale terms are available on request.
