Lovell Stone Group always said it would keep disruption of supply of Hartham Park Bath stone to a minimum when it took over production at Hartham Park underground quarry in Corsham, Wiltshire, this year.
Now its new Fantini chain saw, which cuts the stone out of the ground, is going full speed ahead to extract the Bath Stone for customers throughout the UK.
Hanson Bath & Portland, which previously worked Hartham Park, has started extracting Bath stone from Monks Park, although it has also applied for planning permission to open a new portal to Hartham Park to work areas that Lovell Stone Group does not have the rights to.
Other sources of Bath stone are available. It is produced by Bath Stone Group, which operates Stoke Hill, and Ham & Doulting, which extracts stone from Elm Park underground quarry.
Lovell Stone Group has invested heavily in state-of-the-art equipment for the extraction of the stone at Hartham Park, which is its first underground operation.
James Hart, Sales Director of Lovell, says: “We were excited to take over the lease on Hartham Park and a huge amount of planning and effort has gone into making it operational so that we can supply Bath block stone to customers who have been patiently waiting for it to become available once more.
“Now that our new chain saw and dedicated team are at full steam, our quality Bath block stone is coming out of the ground and we look forward to continued production for many years to come.”
