Szerelmey form three divisions

London stonework and restoration specialists Szerelmey have restructured to form three separate companies under holding company Szerelmey Inter-national. The new companies are: Szerelmey Ltd, concentrating on masonry projects, hand set and precast; Szerelmey GB Ltd, specialising in cladding and flooring for shopping centres; Szerelmey Restoration Ltd, specialising in conservation, restoration and refurbishment, as well as cleaning.

Mark Chivers, who is the director in charge of Szerelmey Restoration, aims to see significant increases in turnover in this sector. Paul Coleman, the chairman of Szerelmey, says: "We took a conscious decision early last year, in tight trading conditions, not to tender on extremely low, uneconomic margin returns, but to patiently wait for the market up turn. This led to some difficult decisions in mid summer 2005, including the need for redundencies.

"However, during this time we analysed in some depth our business, and potential market opportunities. With the separated companies, we are now able to offer highly focussed teams in all of the separate core areas of our business."

He told NSS the difficulties of last year had made them aware of the need to operate across a range of stone specialities to reduce exposure to a downturn in any one of them and to broaden their geographical horizons beyond the M25. However, he felt "the reduced trading volumes of 2005 are now firmly behind us".
