The T108 evolves

Thibaut, distributed in the UK by Bryan Waters Stone in Seaton, Cornwall, have launched a new version of their T108 multi-purpose stone working machine. It is called the Evolution and is available as a CNC version as well as manual.

The benefit of the CNC version, the first of which came into the UK in June, is that shapes can be programmed into it rather than wooden templates having to be used.

The CNC version, which can also be operated by hand, still needs to be manned and the tools changed by the operator. But that means the fine hand finishing often required with most CNC machines can be carried out with the work still on the T108.

The T108 first appeared from the French manufacturers in 1996 and since then more than 400 units have been sold worldwide.

There have been several versions since then, each one with improvements brought about as the result of comments from customers to improve the capabilities, outputs and working positions.

The Evolution is equipped with a quick pneumatic tool changing system that does not require the use of a monkey wrench. It has a single spindle motor with speeds from 250 to 10,000rpm and includes a routing function.

The Evolution has a new graphic screen with icons to pilot the operator through the new automatic functions.

The vertical stroke has been increased to 300mm from 250mm for working thicker stone so that the one machine can be used for countertops, construction and memorials. Memorial tops up to 160mm thick can be milled and polished and convex shapes can be formed thanks to new diamond tools.

Worktables have been specially adapted for this monument application with a rotating pneumatic plate that helps the operator move the stone to polish every side and edge.

There is also the option of a new system of using two, three or four tables in a half circle around the machine, so that several different pieces can be worked without stopping.

The tilting table of the Evolution has been lengthened to 3m instead of 2.3m with two rear removable extensions to find 0 level. The feet, which were painted, are now fully galvanized for greater resistance to corrosion.

The Evolution is also equipped with a new integrated polyester housing to make it quieter.
