There were 36,343 new homes registered with the National House Building Council (NHBC) in the third quarter. This was 8% more than a year earlier and the highest third quarter total since 2007.

Inevitably, it was private housing that drove the growth, rising by 14% compared with a year ago, while public registrations fell back.
