Topping out by Bakers of Danbury on London’s second highest church
A group of intrepid guests joined staff of Bakers of Danbury to climb the 67m to the top of the spire of St Bride’s Church in Fleet Street for a topping out ceremony on 31 July.
The group, including this magazine’s Editor, Eric Bignell (he's on the left of the photo), made its way up 32 scaffold lifts to the top of London’s second tallest church (after St Paul’s), led by Adrian Ward of Bakers of Danbury’s Church Works Department. The Essex stone and conservation company has been cleaning and restoring the tower and spire. There will be more about the work in next month’s NSS.
