Heritage Craft Alliance, an accredited training and assessment provider dedicated to built heritage and based on the Thorp Perrow Estate, Bedale, North Yorkshire, has courses available now, including apprenticeship opportunities.
It has several employers with apprenticeship vacancies on offer with individuals or companies that have approached the Heritage Craft Alliance to ask for help with finding apprentices.
Apprentices join the Alliance's Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Traditional craft skills.


Current apprenticeship vacancies are for:
- 1 x Mason based in North Yorkshire
- 1 x Mason and 1 x Carpenter/Joiner based in Clitheroe
- 2 x Masons based in North Shields
- 1 x Mason, 1 x Heritage Brick worker, 1 x Carpenter/ Joiner based with a Middlesbrough company
- 2 x Masons based in Bishop Auckland
- 1 x Mason based in Hartlepool
The Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Traditional Craft Skills covers traditional, historic and contemporary building. As with all national apprenticeships, students must be fully employed throughout the course in order to achieve the qualification.
As a guide, the expected salary would be around £7,000 in year one and £10,000–£15,000 in year two.
To apply, you must already have achieved a Level 2 in contemporary craft studies or equivalent, or have a minimum of five years' experience on site.

NEW: Upskilling Courses
The Alliance is also offering upskilling courses to individuals, learners or groups. These are courses that complement other accredited qualifications. They last from one to three days and focus on a specific type of task encountered.
These courses are suitable both for those starting out and for those who already have some understanding of a particular skill but wish to learn more detail.
Learners will be taught by experienced craftspeople.
Introduction to Building with Stone
A practical course offering hands-on training covering: Mortars, mixing & uses; Stone types / Dressing, Setting out; Walling, Styles & Techniques and Repairs & Replacement.
This course is sSuitable for builders, property / home owners, surveyors, building professionals and learners in the industry.
