THE TURF CUTTER
Irish mason Barry Wrafter, who considers himself a "stone-cutter" because sculptor "sounds a bit lah-de-dah to me", is pictured above with his Irish blue limestone carving called \'The Turf Cutter\' that has just been installed on the newly built N52 Mullingar bypass in Ireland. The horse stands 1.8m high and is 3m long by nearly 1m wide. The man is 2m high and 1.2m square.
The piece "depicting a world we have left behind but must never forget", as Barry describes it, was commissioned by Westmeath County Council and has led to another commission from Longford County Council. This time he is producing two squirrels fighting - a grey squirrel in Irish blue limestone and a red squirrel in bronze.
Barry says he has always wanted to produce sculptures "and it\'s finally started to happen for me". He would be happy to accept further commissions and can be contacted on Tel: 00353 8765 46678. Email: barrywrafter06@eircom.net.
