Two workers left hanging from eighth floor ledge as construction hoist falls off wall
You know how a little bit of you can't help wondering what would happen if a lift on scaffolding came away while you are using it? Well, it happened at De Montfort University in Leicester on Monday 3 August.
Two men in the lift were left hanging on to a ledge on the eighth floor as the lift swung in mid air and scaffolding fell to the ground. Part of the lift crashed down on to a van below.
The story appeared in the Leicester Mercury newspaper with photographs. Click here to take a look.
It happened on the site of the £42million art, architecture and design faculty being built at De Montfort University by Balfour Beatty. One witness told the newspaper how he feared for the construction workers' safety as they clung on while the lift was swinging in mid-air and scaffolding plummeted to the ground.
The men were rescued when another construction lift was used to reach their level. They escaped unhurt.
