Welsh//Slate increases production at Cwt-y-Bugail as demand grows

North Wales slate company Welsh//Slate has ramped up production at its Cwt-y-Bugail Quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog and has reassigned 24 production operatives to Cwt-y-Bugail from the nearby quarry at Penrhyn.
The company is increasing the amount of slate being produced from Cwt-y-Bugail because it is currently experiencing strong demand for prestigious projects in North Wales, across the UK and internationally.
It was specified for the £6.4million restoration of the Grade II* listed Florence Insitute in Liverpool to help minimise the carbon footprint of the project.
It is also being used for new work, with more than 1,700m2 of dark blue grey riven slate from the quarry being used to clad the £45million Snowhill commercial property development in Birmingham city centre. 

The Cwt-y-Bugail slate is being used in a high-profile
re-development project at a landmark building on The Strand in London – the 10-storey Marconi House, which is being converted into a five-star hotel called the ME London. It is owned by Spanish firm Melia Hotels International.

Closer to home, 10,000 slates have been supplied for use in the Blaenau Ffestiniog town centre regeneration project.

Welsh slate is the tough and will last for centuries, as evidenced by the historic buildings that still have their original roofs. 
Welsh slate is widely used for repairs to Grade I and II listed buildings as well as high-end commercial and self build projects.
