York stone bicycle is a hit on Tour de France route
Fiona Brooks from Yorkshire stone specialists B D Brooks reports that the company enjoyed an exceptional day when the Tour de France bicycle riders came past their showroom in Ripponden on 6 July.
To mark the event, B D Brooks had a bicycle in their showroom window cut from York stone from Johnsons Wellfield Quarries on the waterjet cutter of Waterjet UK in Halifax. They are auctioning it off to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Fiona tells NSS: "We had a great day when Tour de France went through Ripponden. We sold lots more raffle tickets and it was a real party atmosphere. The draw for the York stone bike is going to be made on 1 August.
"I haven’t counted yet, but we must have raised around £1,300-ish. I wanted to do more, but still not a bad amount (and we still have two weeks left to add more to the final count!)."
The winning ticket is going to be drawn by Ben Wyatt, one of the doctors who flies with Air Ambulance. He lives near to Ripponden and has bought a stone fireplace from B D Brooks.
If you would like the chance to win a unique York stone bicycle, tickets are still on sale.
