The construction industry grew 3.6% in November 2014 compared with November 2013, according to official figures published today (9 January) by the Office for National Statistics.
New work showed an increase of 5.7% while repair & maintenance grew marginally by 0.1%. Housing was the big factor in the rise in new work once again at 21.9%. Private industrial work also grew, by 8.8%. Other sectors declined.
Comparing the three months to November 2014 with the previous three months saw a small fall in output of 0.9%, although longer-term growth is confirmed by comparing the three months to the end of November 2014 with the same period a year earlier – new work increased by 4.6% and repair & maintenance by 2.5%.
