Albion Stone gets MPA special award for Health, Safety, Ethical & Environmental

Albion Stone, one of the companies that extracts the dimensional limestone from the Dorset island of Portland, won a Special Award for companies with fewer than 100 employees at the Mineral Products Association (MPA) Health & Safety Conference and Awards in November.

The annual event was in a new location this year – 30 Euston Square, London. Albion’s mines and quarries had been visited by the MPA, which was impressed by its record (no time-loss accidents in the past year), its procedures in place for recording health & safety incidents and its monitoring of employees, especially for HAVS and lung function.

Albion is also working towards the health & safety standard ISO 18001, which it should achieve in February. Albion’s Barrie Thomas is pictured here (on the right of the picture) receiving the Award from Tom Mullarkey MBE, Chief Executive of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).
