A trio of awards to celebrate 20th anniversary
Putney & Wood Ltd, the London stone contractors, have a lot to celebrate as they mark their 20th anniversary.
Specialist stone contractors Putney & Wood have had plenty to celebrate this year as they marked their 20th anniversary, because they have done it in grand style, winning recognition for their stonework on two high profile projects as well as receiving the coveted CSCS Certificate of Commitment Platinum Award.
First, their work on 1 Bartholomew Lane was Highly Commended in the City Heritage Awards.
This was the conversion of a 1930s building that was built as a bank in the heart of the City of London. The project was to create new office space.
Main contractors Balfour Beatty appointed Putney & Wood to carry out the external stone package for four new upper floors, while the façade on the lower six floors was retained.
The new upper floors, with their Portland limestone façades installed by Putney & Wood, who also carried out the stonework design detail, gained the City Heritage Awards recognition.
The Chairman of the Panel of Assessors commented that the refurbishment of 1 Bartholomew Lane was considered “…to be highly commendable, particularly in respecting the façade and in successfully reworking the building’s upper levels”.
Then came recognition in the ‘Fit-out of Workplace’ category in the British Council for Offices London & South East Awards with a £1.2million contribution to the interior of 1 Angel Lane for Japanese conglomerate Nomura. At £100million, the project by architects TTSP on the 11th and 6th floors and Fletcher Priest at lower levels was one of the largest interior fit outs to be completed in Europe last year.
Fit-out specialists Como entrusted the internal stone flooring and lining package to Putney & Wood. Moleanos, Azul Valverde and York stone were used to add a touch of luxury to internal flooring in various locations throughout the building, while engineered quartz wall lining was installed in the directors’ suites, corridors and entertainment areas on the 11th floor. Putney & Wood also installed ceramic floor tiles in the kitchen and cafeteria areas on the 6th floor.
Putney & Wood’s third award was the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Certificate of Commitment Platinum Award. This is presented to companies that have demonstrated commitment to improving competence in construction and have registered more than 90% of their workforce in the scheme.
