Hard landscapers Marshalls have gained a Big Tick in this year’s Business in the Community (BITC) Awards for Excellence in the Climate Change, Eco Efficiency & Supply Chain categories for introducing carbon footprint marks on all 503 products in their domestic range.
The Award was not just for making clear the carbon footprint of the products, but also for making an effort to reduce that footprint.
There is no indigenous stone in the Marshalls domestic range, so what stone there is does not come out favourably as it has come from India. Haworth Moor sandstone walling, for example, carries a carbon footprint of 110kg/m2, while Croft Stone Walling (which is not natural stone) is 55kg/m2 and Heritage Walling (also cast) is 38kg/m2.
Marshalls’ worked with the Carbon Trust’s Carbon Labelling Company to officially label all their 503 products.
As well as being recognised for their carbon impact approach, Marshalls were also re-accredited in the Supply Chain category for their work on ethical supply chain management in India, and in the Eco-Efficiency category for biodiversity and environmental management.
Chris Harrop, Marshalls’ Group Marketing Director, says: “Through a range of different approaches, Marshalls has taken positive action to reduce our carbon impact. Whether it’s developing innovative low carbon products or labelling our entire range of domestic paving, we are demonstrating that businesses really can tackle climate change.”
