Ollie Clack, Team UK’s masonry representative at the WorldSkills contest in Calgary, Canada, earlier this month missed out on the medals but achieved a Medallion for Excellence for achieving a World Class Standard 500 points in the competition.
An apprentice with Chichester masons CWO and a student at Weymouth College, Ollie won his place in the 26 members of the British team ahead of 65 other stonemasonry hopefuls.
The British team competed in Calgary against 900 competitors from 45 other nations. They won three Gold medals and six Bronze’s and 14 of them achieved the World Standard 500 points to come away with a Medallion of Excellence.
As NSS went to press the team were still in Canada recovering from a competition that is the culmination of 18 months hard training in preparation for the event.
Skills Minister Kevin Brennan, said: “I would like to congratulate each member of Team UK for the hard work and talent they displayed in Calgary. These inspiring young people have demonstrated to the rest of world just how able and highly skilled the UK is.”
