British Precast’s ‘Raising the Bar’ initiative has been shortlisted for the Climate Week Awards’ Best Campaign Category.
‘Raising the Bar’ takes forward British Precast’s Sustainability Charter membership scheme.
First launched in November 2007, the Charter has now become a mandatory requirement for all members of British Precast under the campaign.
The initiative provides sustainability guidelines that go well beyond legislative requirements for reducing energy use, landfill waste, water consumption and CO2 emissions.
Last year, members of British Precast achieved 12 out of 13 Targets set for 2012.
As a result of ‘Raising the Bar’ and the organisation’s Sustainability Charter and KPI Scheme, British Precast is proud that its member companies and their supply chains have already reduced total CO2 emissions by nearly 10%.
It says it is vital that this positive trend continues and “we hope that this recognition by the Climate Week Awards persuades others in the construction sector to further address issues on sustainability”.
‘Raising the Bar’ is going up against campaigns from The Times, Size of Wales and Zero Carbon Hero.
The winners will be announced at Climate Week launch at the House of Commons on Monday 4 March.
